From Jumping Jobs to Finding My Passion: My Journey to Cybersecurity

Are you bored with your job? Do you feel like you're stuck in a rut and need a change? Well, let me tell you, I've been there. After completing my B. Tech, I found myself jumping from company to company, trying out different roles and positions to see what would stick. I felt like I was going nowhere fast until I finally found my passion in the field of cybersecurity.

My journey began when I discovered that I had a natural knack for cracking passwords. I started to become the go-to person among my friends whenever they forgot their login credentials. But that wasn't enough for me. I wanted to learn more, to do more.

As an IT student, I quickly realized that theoretical classes just weren't cutting it for me. I needed to be hands-on and see the results for myself. So, I started experimenting with C and C++ programming, finding the formulaic calculations and problem-solving fascinating.

But it wasn't until I attended an event organized by Deloitte that my eyes were truly opened to the world of cybersecurity. It was like a lightbulb went off in my head - this was my calling. So, I pursued my M.Tech in Information Security in Cyber Forensics and dove headfirst into the world of MSS analysis.

Working as an MSS analyst was an eye-opening experience. I learned how to detect and investigate potential threats using tools like Security Onion, Cuckoo Sandbox, and Alien Vault. I gained a working knowledge of network intrusion detection systems, firewalls, and log correlation tools. And most importantly, I discovered my passion for cybersecurity.

From there, I completed my final year project in criminal forensics and pursued diplomas in Forensic Psychology and Database Management Systems, while working as a Cybersecurity Specialist at Syscloud Technology. Here, I conducted physical security assessments of servers, systems, and network devices, collaborated with management and IT teams to develop security solutions, and leveraged SIEM tools to monitor, detect, and respond to potential security threats.

But my thirst for knowledge didn't stop there. I worked as a freelancer for over 2.5 years, performing tasks like deep analysis of pcap files, conducting web app authorization coverage scanning, and testing existing security defenses. And during this time, I pursued a range of certifications, including Network Defense Essential, Digital Forensic Essential, and Cybereason Certified Threat Hunter.

Today, I work for a renowned Japanese-based company as a SOC Analyst, Forensic Investigator, Penetration Tester, Malware Analyst, and Incident Responder. It's a lot to juggle, but it keeps me on my toes and constantly learning.

So, if you're feeling bored or stuck in your career, know that it's never too late to explore new options and find your passion. Who knows - you might just discover your true calling in the field of cybersecurity.
