My Journey to Cybersecurity: From Password Cracker to Digital Defender

Growing up, I was always drawn to technology like a moth to a flame. I may not have known much about the IT field as a kid, but I did know how to crack the passwords of my friends' laptops whenever they forgot them. It was a handy skill to have and made me feel like a hacker extraordinaire. In university, I found myself trying to download videos when they restricted access to certain URLs in the router. It was like a game of cat and mouse, and I was determined to outsmart the system. But let's be real, I was just procrastinating on my assignments.

As an IT student, I quickly realized that I got bored easily. Theoretical classes were a snooze fest, and I needed something to keep my mind engaged. That's when I discovered the beauty of formula-based calculations and programming in C and C++. It was like solving a puzzle, and I loved it.

Fast forward to my second year of IT, and I attended an event organized by Deloitte company. Little did I know, it would be a total game-changer. As I sat there, listening to the speaker talk about cyber security, I felt like I was having an epiphany. Suddenly, it all made sense. This was the field for me. And not just because it sounded cool and impressive, but because it was important. Cyber security is crucial in today's world, and I wanted to be a part of the solution.

The more I learned about cybersecurity, the more I realized how much I had been taking it for granted. I mean, sure, I had cracked a few passwords here and there, but I never really thought about the potential consequences of a cyber attack. The truth is, the consequences can be dire. Cyber attacks can result in financial losses, reputational damage, and the compromise of personal and confidential data. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

But don't worry, it's not all doom and gloom. As a cyber security professional, I get to be a part of the solution. It's like being a superhero, but instead of fighting crime on the streets, I'm fighting crime in the digital world. And trust me, it can be just as exciting.

Of course, it's not always glamorous. There are times when I'm stuck in front of a computer screen for hours on end, trying to debug code or analyze data. But even then, I try to find ways to make it fun. Like blasting some upbeat music or taking a break to do some stretches and exercises. It's all about finding ways to stay engaged and motivated.

So, if you're like me and easily get bored with theoretical classes or mundane tasks, consider a career in cyber security. It's challenging, rewarding, and most importantly, it's important work. Who knows, maybe you'll even get to crack a few passwords along the way (just make sure it's legal!).
